Panaji: job fair to tap Pernem for recruits for Mopa airport

Panaji: To provide employment opportunities to residents of Pernem taluka, especially to those whose land was acquired for the proposed greenfield airport at Mopa, the directorate of civil aviation is organizing a job fair at Pernem on November 18 from 10am to 5pm.
Megawide Construction Corporation, the subcontractor appointed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), requires skilled and unskilled workers for three months to a year for the ongoing construction of the airport. The department announced that special preference would be given to those who are residents of Mopa, Varconda, Chandel, Uguern, Casarveem and Amberem.

The state government has repeatedly said that Goans, especially locals from Pernem, would be given priority during recruitment for the airport. However, the agreement signed between GGIAL and Goa government states locals and Goans should be given preference but it says the promoter is not restricted from employing anyone else.8
