Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report within three weeks into complaints that training of students at the government-owned Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology (RAGAAT) in the capital had come to a standstill owing to the absence of the Chief Instructor.

It is a matter of concern that five aircraft purchased to impart training to pilot aspirants are idling in the hangar of the RAGAAT at Chakka, SHRC acting chairperson P. Mohandas said in his order on Tuesday.

The training was stopped after the former Chief Instructor was removed by the authorities following complaints that he had allegedly slapped a student.

The SHRC chairman said there were complaints that the RAGAAT authorities were not showing any interest in posting a Chief Instructor to impart training in aircraft to those who aspiring to take commercial pilot licence.

Director of Tourism, who holds additional charge of the Managing Director of Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL), is also the Director of the RAGAAT. The posting of the Chief Instructor of RAGAAT needs the mandatory nod of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
