Install cameras to check fake flying training logs: DGCA
Mumbai: To check malpractices in flying schools, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday issued a circular asking flying training organizations to instal cameras for real-time surveillance through the internet.
Three years ago, fake records were unearthed from a few flying schools where students and instructors had fraudulently entered logs of flights, which were never undertaken, into their training books. The scam particularly raised concerns over the scope of vigilance the regulator could have on flying schools that operated from uncontrolled airfields, that is, from runways that were not manned by the Airports Authority of India’s air traffic control.
“The cameras should be installed to cover the approach of both ends of the runway and the apron area, in case of uncontrolled airfields and classrooms and examination rooms,” said the circular issued by Dr Captain Yashraj Tongia, director, flying training, DGCA.
