Jet cuts trainee co-pilots’ pay from Rs 1.3L to Rs 50k
New Delhi: India’s largest private airline Jet Airways has reduced the monthly salary of its trainee co-pilots by almost 60% from about Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 50,000 in the New Year. The decision was conveyed to its trainee co-pilots in last week and is among a series of steps that the airline is taking to cut costs and survive the life-threatening phase that Indian carriers are passing through due to a mix of high operating cost environment at home and a slowing down economy.
During the last slowdown also Jet had reduced salaries of its employees to survive the tough economic conditions and then restored them to pre-cut levels when the environment improved. Its two full service peers – Air India and Kingfisher – have been unable to pay salaries to employees in time for months now.
Trainee co-pilots join an airline after getting type rated (certified) to fly a particular aircraft. They are first trained to fly by being seated on the co-pilot’s seat with a commander and a co-pilot on the third seat in the cockpit.

atleast they hav the job
people ready to get train without salary also… 1.3lks is ofcrse too much for beginers.. good decision made by airlines in this economic critical time…
It is a good call by the airline and would augur well for other airlines to follow suit.It is better to stop viewing the airline industry as it being associated with glamor;especially since the industry itself has thwarted it out.And I agree with the opinion that the pay parity in the airline industry is way too high in comparison to other areas of work.The loss however can be compensated in terms of fringe benefits such as better life cover, accident insurance and group medical insurance for pilots.
i want to make my carriear in aviation industry so i need a handful guidance

Good move by JET. Already the pilots in the aviation industry gets too much paid. That is one of the reason why the industry is suffering from losses. If all the airlines cut the pilots salaries to half, the airlines can certainly save some part of money to pay their heavy debts. I personally don’t think that the trainee pilots getting more than 1Lac pay per month is correct. Even the experienced pilots they get 3L a month, which is far much than what they deserve. Cut the salaries to 50% throughout the industry, no pilot will leave the company.
pilot is much overpaid and experienced pilot even should not get more than RS 1 lacs per month.to make air lines profitable the salary of pilots must be reduced by 2/3
@Priya Meshram.
Please know that what you are saying is directly effecting thousands of lively hoods. How would you feel if your salary is cut by 50%.I agree that paying 1.3L is too much for a trainee pilot but for seasoned pilot 3L is fitting considering the job he/she does is making sure people reach from place A to place B safely.It seems like you yourself are not a pilot and thats why dont know the rigorous training a pilot goes through to get qualified for being a professional. Please make sure you have your facts straight before you plan to blog something which can effect the lives of not only pilots but even your safety while flying.
All you people who are in the favor of salary cut are such stupid people you don’t know anything about this industry ,its so hard to get the job in the first place and by the time they get the job they are under tremendous debt to the banks and relatives .And being a pilot is not an easy job they need to be alert all the time while they are on job unlike many other professions .Its a dangerous job for sure all you hating pu__ys .So let these guys breathe ,let them have a good life style so that everybody is safe ….OR U WILL HEAR ABOUT PLANE CRASHES OFTEN.
hello mr indias……stop this bullshit now….u know how much does it cost for one hour to fly…??? doesnt know anything abt industry but …baaashan deneke liye tayyar hojaathe..kaam danda nahi hi kya…??
software job bhol ke soooch re kya…first talk to a pilot before commentinnn anythinng related to aviation..!!
Very bad thing.I mean come on these guys spend like 25 lacks on their training to get paid 50k?Fuck that.
