Mumbai: The Bombay Flying Club has become the first college in aviation history to be affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The approval was given on Monday and the BFC college of aviation can conduct BSc aviation courses for 60 students in the city.
So far, aviation institutes only gave pilots a Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) via the DGCA.
According to BFC officials, it is the first college to offer courses for student pilot licence, CPL, ground training, flight radio telephony licence, full practical flight training to issue DGCA-approved commercial pilot licences and a degree course-BSc Aviation.
A senior pilot with Air India who was a student of BFC said, “To get a degree course in aviation, students would do their ground classes in India and would go abroad to US or Australia to complete their flying degrees. However at BFC, it will be done under one roof at Mumbai.”
