DGCA gets tough with institutes
Mumbai: On Wednesday, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel directed the DGCA to audit all engineering, flight and crew training institutes.
Authorities will finalise new rules on pilots’ flight duty and rest periods
A team of DGCA officials and experts will be set up to this end. The team will assess and approve the institutes to ensure better training with stress on the quality.
The decisions were taken in the Civil Aviation Safety Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday. The current rules too require engineering and flight training institutes to obtain a licence from the DGCA. As per the guidelines, the DGCA checks flight and engine log books and training records. “However, there have been instances when cadets and instructors fudge flight records. The DGCA has been unable to check that,†the source said.
The DGCA will also finalise new rules on pilots’ flight duty and rest periods.
