Airline hiring drive fuels extra flights hope

Kolkata: AirAsia India is set to significantly increase operations in Kolkata and embark on a major recruitment drive for cabin crew for the new services that will be added during the year, both on domestic and international sectors.
“AirAsia India is strengthening its operations in Kolkata and is looking for enthusiastic candidates with the passion of flying. Since talent acquisition and training are key focus areas, we are keen to recruit the right talent and train them our way before they are deployed,” an AirAsia official said,

At present, AirAsia India has eight flights from Kolkata that connect Bhubaneswar, New Delhi, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Ranchi, Pune and Visakhapatnam. AirAsia Berhad and Thai AirAsia already operate international flights to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok from Kolkata.

“Kolkata is one of our hubs and we have big plans for the market in the coming months. As AirAsia India expands and gets ready for international operations, guests can look forward to more direct domestic and international connections out of Kolkata,” the official said.

Apart from Kolkata, the airline has hubs in Bengaluru and New Delhi.

Sources said the cabin crew recruitment indicated plans to launch multiple flights from the city. Local crew is recruited as they offer a natural advantage in terms of language when conversing with passengers who may not be conversent in Hindi or English. For the airline, too, it makes logistic sense to hire crews from the location where an aircraft is based.
“We hire local crew from our hubs to support our growing operations and hiring will be an on-going process for us as we expand our footprint in India,” said an AirAsia India spokesperson.
