Aviation Technician Academy will be set up soon: Thodge
Taking a step towards the development of Vidarbha as a defence industries hub, Tata Technologies and Vidarbha Defence Development Hub organised a ‘Summit 2017 Aerospace and Defence,’ an initiative to co-create sustainable ecosystem for aerospace and defence. It was supported by VIDH, VIA, BMA, MIA. The keynote speaker was Lt. Gen. (Retd) Ravindra Thodge, an advisor to Government of India.
Anoop Kumar, Divisional Commissioner was the guest of honour. There was a panel discussion in which the panelist were K N Madan, Ex-Director, DGM and Business Head Air India Operations, Dr Rajarajan Shanmugan, Chief Executive Officer, Tata-HAL (JV between Tata Technologies and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), Shridhar Dharmarajan, Senior Director of SAARC and ASEAN, MSC Corporation USA and Harsh Gune, Chief Executive Officer of WOM India. Through this initiative, organisers wanted to bridge a gap and enhance the employability of the technical graduates in Vidarbha. They propose to establish a center of excellence of skill development in aerospace and automotive with the help of Tata Technologies.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Thodge welcomed Tata Technologies initiative for development of Vidarbha. “Now, things will move much faster as Tata is a name on which we can rely,†he said. He advised entrepreneurs to join the journey and take up the challenge and get into the mainstream. The defence sector would create a lot of opportunities for growth with multiple global players eyeing India as a destination for investment. “We must now not wait to find weather it is chicken or the egg who comes first but start taking a step forward. With projects like TAL there is ample opportunities. The sector has large volume of requirement. It has to offer something for everyone. We must grab the opportunities,†Thodge said. He disclosed that within two to three month an Aviation Technician Academy would be set up in city.
