Flying school’s fixed wing operations may be shifted
Bangalore: The heritage Government Flying Training School (GFTS) at Jakkur here is likely to temporarily shift its fixed wing operations to HAL or Mysore airport as the government has been forced to shut down the school’s runway to avoid legal tangles.
Abhayachandra Jain, Minister of State for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Services, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the school stopped its fixed wing operations 10 days ago.
“This is following the High Court of Karnataka’s order directing the government to stop traffic movement on the elevated highway near the school when aircraft are landing or taking off during flying classes. As this is impossible, the Chief Secretary has ordered the temporary closure of the school’s runway till an alternative measure is chalked out,†he said.
Six months ago, a micro-light aircraft manufacturer approached the court stating that the elevated highway endangered the life of trainees at flying school who “are unable to take off and land safely†as the construction had reduced the length of the runway.
