Yechury in cockpit, Flying school takes off

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury in Behala on Friday, launching a private flying school that will be the first to train commercial pilots in eastern India. He was invited as chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on transport.

He thanks Delhi-based Trans Bharat Aviation, which will run the school, for picking eastern India. “There will be a huge demand for pilots as both Indian and international companies are… making a comeback after the global recession.”
But if private capital for a Rs 20-lakh flying course is fine, it’s not so for Calcutta airport.
Yechury says the House panel will table a report next week opposing the privatisation of Calcutta and Chennai airports. “(Privatisation of airports) has failed worldwide.”
Trans Bharat, part of the MLA Group of Companies, operates chartered flights — a preserve of the richest. The group’s website cites business interests ranging from minerals and chemicals to real estate.
