NSDC to open Skill Development Council in Aerospace Aviation in Bangalore
The National Skill Development Council (NDSC) on 5 August 2013 announced about its plans to open a Skill Development Council for the National Aerospace and Aviation Industry at Bangalore. The council would be formed by September 2013. The basic objective behind the creation of the SSC is to bridge the quantitative and qualitative skill gap.
About the Skill Development Council
• The Skill Development Council will be an autonomous body and oversee the design, development and certification of occupational standards for the aerospace and aviation industry.
• The aerospace council would be the 20th such body formed under the NSDC’s aegis. The council, which has access to funds to the tune of 1000 crore rupees, has been mandated to generate skills for one million people in the country in 2013.
• The formation of the aerospace council is expected to result in the certification of more than 18000 trainers in 90 trades within the next three years.
• The council would not only result in certification but also the generation of a labour market information system for the industry.
• The council would conduct productivity analysis and track technology trends so that skills can be upgraded.
• The formation of the council would enable the identification of institutions in the country that were equipped to deliver courses suited to the needs of the industry.
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, in his 2013-14 budget speech, had proposed an allocation of 1000 crore rupees for a skill development scheme that would offer an incentive of 10000 rupees to every individual, who undergoes training.
