Airline sector seeing big-time hiring

New Delhi: Airlines, and infrastructure companies involved in airport modernisation, are hiring again as the global economy shows signs of revival, with nearly 3,000 people expected to be recruited over the next few months.
At this time last year, at least 2,000 employees were retrenched across airlines. Among the airlines that are hiring — even as they add aircraft and destinations — are Kingfisher, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir. International carriers such as Malaysia Airlines, Emirates, Oman Air and Qatar Airways are also recruiting from India.
Infrastructure companies such as GMR and GVK, too, are hiring for airport construction and maintenance.
IndiGo is planning to hire about 1,000 people in the next few months, and is also planning to hike salaries in the next two-three months.
Kingfisher is looking to hire nearly 500 employees over the next one year, while SpiceJet will add another 200 in the coming months.
A flight attendant employed with a domestic carrier may earn anywhere between Rs 20,000 and Rs 35,000 a month, while a trainee co-pilot could get between Rs 60,000 and Rs 1 lakh a month. However, a pilot employed as a captain with an airline could earn a monthly salary of Rs 4-5 lakh.
