CAE signs contracts with Indian government to provide pilot training
The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) today signed a management contract with CAE of Canada. A Joint Venture Agreement was also signed by the Airports Authority of India and the CAE to develop the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute (RGNFTI). This was done in the presence of Shri Ashok Chawla, Secretary, Civil Aviation.
For IGRUA, the management contract is for ten years initially. The first 12 months of the fiscal year 2008-09 will be a ramp up period wherein new facilities and aircraft will be added. The number of pilots being trained in the Akademi will increase from the present 40 to 100 by March 2009. Besides increase in the number the quality of training of pilots will also be upgraded. CAE will manage IGRUA’s existing flight school activities , including maintenance of aircraft, flying operations, air traffic control, runway maintenance, NAV aids, fire fighting facilities, medical facilities, security, staff and student facilities, as well as transportation. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi opened in 1986 and is the government’s national flying school located at the Fursatganj Airport in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
The Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute will have the capacity to train 100 pilots initially, which will be increased to 200 pilots. The foundation stone for this Institute will be laid by the Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh on 9th February 2008 in Gondia, Maharashtra. The RGNFTI will be a joint venture between CAE and AAI. The Institute will include a state-of-the-art facility equipped with classrooms, a hostel, a library, a workshop, a cafeteria, a guesthouse and a club. The school will operate new aircraft, and will use CAE’s courseware and innovative training methodologies. The total investment for RGNFTI is approximately US$25 million.
