Female crew members eligible for in flight supervisor: HC
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday upheld the Central government order allowing female cabin crew members in the national carrier Air India to fly till they are 58 years.
The court has also held that female crew members are eligible for appointment as in-flight supervisors (ifs).
By this judgement, this court "upholds the validity of the impugned administrative order dated December 27, 2005 (executive female cabin crew placed at par with their male counterparts for the appointment of ifs) as well as November 21, 2003 order (that allows female cabin crew to fly till they are 58 years)."
"The order dated December 27, 2005 is not discriminatory to the male cabin crew. In fact, far from eliminating the possibility of the male cabin crew performing as ifs, it provides a chance to their female colleagues as well. In effect, it removes the "men only" tag on the function of ifs," a bench comprising Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice S Muralidhar said.
The judgement came on a bunch of petitions filed by male cabin crew members (recruited earlier to June 5, 1997) challenging the centre's order allowing female crew members to fly till the age of 58 years and making female crew members eligible for consideration for appointment as in-flight supervisors.
